American friends first alerted me to the glories of the Found Footage Festival, the brainchild of two American TV writers: Joe Pickett (The Onion) and Nick Prueher (The Colbert Report). The two friends have spent much of the last quarter century collecting old VHS tapes from garage sales and swap meets. Then they compile the funniest, oddest and most confusing clips and take the resulting mess on the road. It’s a hilarious (and frequently disturbing) look at a forgotten America and the two bring their own brand of caustic wit to the proceedings. And for their first London show they have a special treat, an ‘after dark’ version of the show featuring the more risque clips they’ve amassed. They promise “A home movie documenting a debaucherous holiday weekend in rural Michigan, a New Age exercise video demonstrating a process called “testicle breathing” and behind-the-scenes footage from a fishing-themed calendar called Women in Waders’ just for starters.
