Information wants to be free, and thanks to the internet it usually is, but what about something structured into formal education? A new effort that fosters free digital-learning now offers students worldwide access to top-tier courses from the likes of Harvard and MIT. Pioneered by two Google researchers at Stanford, and encouraged by growing demand, Massively Online Open Courses (MOOCs) are proliferating, opening up opportunities for institutions and students alike.
