We always feel a little more grown up when we go to an event at the Royal Society – maybe it’s the elegant backdrop, maybe it’s the history – but whatever it is there’s something mature about the place. Which probably makes it the ideal location for a discussion about the role of growing older in today’s society. As part of the always interesting CafĂ© Scientifique series, Dr Matthew Piper, whose research focuses on the effect of nutrition on health and the ageing process, will be talking about modern attitudes to death and aging and asking whether the idea of treating old age as an illness is of any practical use to us. / Rob Valid
