One of our favourite esoteric London venues is sequestered inside the slightly surprising environs of the Andaz Hotel, next to Liverpool Street station. The old masonic temple there has the perfect Olde London feel – a little bit grand, a little bit spooky, a little bit past its best – and when the right kind of people get hold of it then you know you’re in for a good night. Luckily A Curious Invitation are definitely the right kind of people. They’re filling the place with a odd mix of eccentricities – erotic poetry, voodoo hula hooping, tableaux sketching and a creepy crawly menagerie. With a screening of Fire Walk With Me and nibbles (not two things that usually go together) and a cast of wandering burlesque types to make sure you’re having fun, this is a glorious rabbit hole into a whole other city.
