For over twenty years Southbank Centre has invited the world’s most distinguished musicians to guest direct Meltdown festival, a special week of one-off performances of their favourite artists. Previous curators include Yoko Ono, David Bowie and Patti Smith, and this year brings us Oscar winning, Talking Heads co-founding musical pioneer David Byrne. It’s a rare window into his mind and the artists and ideas that inspire him. His Meltdown features musicians from all over the world with an eclectic mix from afro-funk to flamenco to drone metal. The lineup includes Kurt Cobain-inspiring band Young Marble Giants, Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor, and a sound installation created by Brian Eno – a Once In A Lifetime festival.
