There’s something very pure about the Moth Mainstage events. Five people, from varied walks of life, get up on stage without notes and tell a story from their past. No props, no effects, no gimmicks; just a piece of someone’s life beamed straight to you in the audience. Of course it helps that the people behind it consistently find great people to talk. A mix of unknowns with interesting lives – a pickpocket, a hot­dog eating champion – and better-known faces – Malcolm Gladwell, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels – hold court and you always come away feeling like you’ve peeked behind the curtain of their existence. A great night out.
