There’s no doubting that this film‘s title is a question that most of us in the West would answer with a resounding ‘Villain’ – Mugabe’s history of human rights abuses, repression and the squandering of his nation’s resources put him right up there on the list of World’s Worst Leaders. Yet Roy Agyemang, after a three-year stint following the leader across the country (and around Africa), sees him as a more complex character. With unrivalled access to the country’s leaders, Agyemang asks whether Mugabe’s fiercely anti-colonial politics have in fact benefited Zimbabwe. Sure to be a hot topic over the next couple of months this is a provocative, difficult documentary.
