East Londoners will find this hard to believe but west London used to be the musical centre of London – the Pistols/Clash/reggae scenes of the seventies were born here. But as the musicians moved east west London has become home to another group of artists – the literary scene. With Notting Hill bookshops thriving and reading groups and author events booming the time’s right for a bona fide literary festival, and, right on time, here it is. It’s an eclectic mix – there are the typical author talks on everything from cycling to chilli, a selection of the area’s best bloggers and an excellent sounding literary contest: six writers will be sent off across Notting Hill to write stories that’ll be read out at the event’s closing party. A welcome addition to London’s festival scene.
