When Dorothy clicked her heels together and said, ‘there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home’, she was imagining a safe place, a place free from whirlwinds, wicked witches and – a metaphorical stretch for the purposes of this preview – perhaps even work. For home used to be distinguishable by the absence of employment, but under early 21st century capitalism, that boundary has been blurred; we’re kindly encourged to ‘work from home’ (like, thanks) and are constantly connected via the crackberry. Those lines are even further fudged for the artist, who merely requires a space for production. No Space Like Home invites us in to investigate the interplay between the artist’s work space and home: four artists show us how these spaces can be spontaneous but also short-lived. Pop into this pop-up gallery in Fitzrovia during your lunch break, click your heels together, and keep the crackberry switched off… / Vyvian Raoul
