As part of their Poetry & Lyrics festival, Poet in the City are welcoming some of contemporary Britain’s best wordsmiths to King’s Place to discuss the role of icons and influences on their work. Simon Armitage (you’ll probably recognise the name from poetry anthologies studied at school) and Jehnny Beth of fierce rock band Savages are in conversation with BBC arts correspondent John Wilson, exploring the correlation between poetry and music. The agenda for the festival is pretty packed. Kate Wakeling leads super-sonic treasure hunt to find the secret music that fizzes through poetry; Benin City and cross-art form company nabakov introduce Last Night, a boundary-pushing spoken word and music experience; there’s a recital of Emily Dickinson’s beautiful poetry; and the festival producers present a night of subcultures and subversion.
