In the pantheon of dance music authors, Matthew Collin sits comfortably on high. His first book on house & techno culture, ‘Altered States’, set a benchmark for quality writing about the genre when it was released in 1997. It combined personal experience with proper reporting into what happened when Ecstasy first met house music and put the results into a proper social and political context. Since then he’s written several more books on music and honed his journo chops writing for the Guardian, the BBC and Al-Jazeera. But now he’s back in print with ‘Rave On’, which tracks modern dance music from Shanghai to Dubai, via Vegas and Ibiza. Long-time London music journalist and Worldwide FM DJ Kate Hutchinson will ask him what he found out.
