Rian Johnson is a writer and director best known for his films Brick and Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s lesser known that he’s directed some of the most critically acclaimed episodes of Breaking Bad, and that he’s a big fan of Jonathan Glazer’s weird and wonderful Under the Skin, which he’ll be introducing at the BFI. Under the Skin is a mix of visually stunning out of this world sci-fi and real life hidden camera footage of Glaswegian blokes. Glazer himself describes it as an “existentialist Beadle’s About” – can Johnson can top that description? If that hasn’t piqued your interest, it stars the spectacular Scarlett Johansson as a sexy alien. Prepare to be unsettled. But whatever you do, don’t hitch a ride in a white van.
