When throwing a festival, it pays to think long and hard about your geographical context. In the case of Spitalfields Summer Festival, that context is the wonderful mish-mash, melting pot of Shoreditch. Contrary to popular belief, Shoreditch is actually a hugely varied place and isn’t solely frequented by Media types and art-school dropouts done good. As such SSF caters to just about every demographic under the sun. With venues varying from Hackney Farm to The Village Underground it will hardly come as a surprise that the acts span a huge musical spectrum. There is also a one-on-one performance booth that looks suspiciously like a port-a-loo but perhaps the less said about that the better. There are events running until 21st June, many of which are entirely free. More details can be found on their website. If you always wanted to nose around the nooks and crannies of Spitalfields you will never have a richer and more varied soundtrack to your exploration.
