Even in London’s fast moving gastronomical world, Maltby Street Market’s rise to prominence has to be seen as pretty astronomical. I wrote a piece 18 months ago introducing the market, with it’s sporadic stalls, minimal seating and gloriously shambolic atmosphere. Yet here we are, less than two years later, Maltby Street is charting territory that even it’s big, bad brother in Borough won’t go near; Sunday openings. It is also Bar Tozino’s (arguably the jewel in the Maltby Street crown) first anniversary. They moved into their permanent location inside one of Lassco’s famed arches a year ago to the day. The bunting will be out as always, but expect an especially festive atmosphere just south of the river this weekend.
