Who was Diogenes? A Greek philosopher whose ideology was that of cynicism. The new wave wine bar named Diogenes The Dog that’s recently opened in Elephant and Castle shares the same inquisitive nature of its namesake, questioning what we know about vino, stocking lesser known alternatives from emerging regions. The stylish spot serves coffee and sweet treats by day and turns into an atmospheric watering hole by night. What’s more, bottles can be purchased to take home too. Need some advice on what to choose? Owner Sunny Hodge has put together a trio of reds and whites this winter season, three that are perfect for the festive period. Those perferring to sip on a glass on-site in the welcoming space can enjoy a bite to eat and music too: come December there’ll be a weekly night taking place in the basement by the name of ‘Barrel & Blues’, with Artie and Jake Zaitz Duo playing acoustic sets, and food-wise, there’ll be range of delights on offer such as pâté, charcuterie and cheeseboards.
