Broadway Market may be ranked high on hipster places in London, but this little slice of Hackney is a firm favourite of mine after many years.
A home for traders since the 1900s, the community run market comes alive on Saturdays with over 100 stalls. Shopping wise there’s plenty of fresh produce, vintage clothes, records, books, and handmade items. But it’s the food here that’s king. There are street treats from all over the world; Denney’s Haggis Toastie, Jewish Deli’s Salt Beef Bagel and Dumpling Shack’s Shanghai-style Baos to name a few.
There’s also plenty of free-from options, especially with the newly opened Broadway Vegan Market. Here plant fans can enjoy jackfruit junk food from Biff’s Jack Shack and grilled cheeses from Joey’s Kitchen.
Top tips; do a lap before committing to your lunch choice. Or bring hungry friends so you can try a bit of everything. You can always walk it off in London Fields.
