This completely re-vamped and all-Conran kitted out new restaurant, bar and retail space by Albion has no resemblance to the original occupant of the site: Xanadu; the first nightclub to obtain a 24-hour dance licence in the UK, run and co-hosted by London club promoters Robert Pereno and Laurence Malice. Dionysus certainly frequented this spot back then, a 90s debauch all night-dancing rave den in stark contrast to the sleek interior and organic veg counter currently in its place.
But nevertheless, this new dweller has created a very accomplished space, perfect for all-day eating. The downstairs bar is suitably dark, with drinks made from Albion’s own gin. Upstairs the menu is dominated by British classics: classic kedgeree, kippers and devilled kidneys. The oysters are excellent, and the service impeccable – a safe bet for when the parents are in town.
