This menu is full of all that stuff we stopped eating, for a good reason, back in the 70s: prawn cocktail, chicken kiev, ham, egg & chips. The decor is decidedly retro, with a mini TV displaying a ‘chicken kiev counter’ and pinball tables. But the thing is, it all works. And it works really well. The classics don’t surprise, but they satisfy an odd craving we didn’t really know we had. The chicken kiev is perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and moist (a word we all love) on the inside – so much garlic you’ll still smell it on your skin a day later. The wrapped up gum delivered with the dish has little impact on this, but it’s neat, nonetheless. Coin Laundry is a fun, affordable and relaxed Clerkenwell hangout– with a downstairs cocktail bar that impresses with its rather unexpected sophistication.
