Beneath the dwellings of The Frog is an innovative new drinking den for whisky, cocktail enthusiasts and novices alike. From chef Adam Handling, in collaboration with Matt Whiley (aka Talented Mr Fox) and Rich Woods (aka The Cocktail Guy), Iron Stag boasts a comprehensive menu of cocktails with the aim of making whisky more accessible.
It seems to be working as I’ve never enjoyed a whiskey drink… until tonight. Favourites include the 6th Sencha and the Rose Poseur – fun, tasty and easy to drink. The carefully curated cocktail menu is split into three sections; Whisky & Soda (twists on the Whisky Highball|), Whisky Fix (playful takes on classics) and Other Cocktails (other spirits such as the delightful Pina Colager). The booths are also fitted with taps, so if you’re feeling fancy you can order a keg of pre-batched cocktail for £200 and help yourselves throughout the night.
Accompanying the drinks are a selection of bar snacks which do not disappoint. They include the Frog-famous Cheese Doughnuts, a selection of ‘Fat Bastard sandwiches’, a lovely BBQ carrot dish and Battered Mars Bar for dessert; all indulgent and satisfying. Like the food and drink, the service is impeccable, making Iron Stag a very strong addition to Hoxton Square indeed.
