There are more than a few things about the King & Co. that we really like. First the obvious: it looks like a pub, it feels like a pub – but it always smells different. Deliciously different. A clever rotation of pop-up kitchen residencies, giving the best of London’s street food vans a permanent kitchen for a month, and us a different sensory experience each time, is really good vibes. Now to the specifics: this is an independent place, which means they can hand-pick all the craft beers, create a mad Bloody Mary list and offer a pint of ale for £3.20 on Mondays. Forget about sticky dance floors and Channel 4 chicken shops, this is far enough from Clapham High Street to feel like a lovely neighbourhood pub – and it is. Best night is Monday, not just for the beer deal, but for the excellent fortnightly pub quiz.
