The little escapes in London are what make it such a liveable city despite soaring rents, central congestion and 9 months of rain-slop. Working just off of Oxford Street, I have figured out that you are never more than a strategic sidestreet stroll away from peace, despite what the doomsday-esque crowd at Oxford Circus may lead you to believe. Take The Larder for example, tucked away in a lovely little courtyard by Goodge Street station. Within earshot of the hustle and bustle of the city’s dogged centre, this place is somehow serene and – dare I say it – underpopulated.
The goods on offer ain’t bad either: craft beer from Hackney-based Crate brewery (The black IPA is the top dog), GOAT level French wine and a selection of fine British and French cheeses (the Barkham Blue is incredible) and sharing platters. With an outdoor seating area, this place is a lovely stop for post-work drinks and eats as we continue on into our Indian (hopefully REALLY Indian) summer.
