Who doesn’t love fried chicken? We recommend getting your next fix at this Hoxton spot from the team behind Red Dog Saloon. They’ve relaunched their basement space – complete with a newly-painted, vibrant mural emblazoned across one wall – and are focusing on the Nashville-style variety, where seasoned and spiced meat is fried in cayenne-infused oil, giving the flavoursome end product a fiery, red hue. We opt for ‘The Sammich’: encased in a lightly toasted potato bun, mega crisp coating gives way to juicy thigh, alongside a layer of crunchy slaw and piquant pickles. Other options include tenders, half bird and wings, served traditionally with slices of white bread. Sauce-wise, depending on where you sit on the braveness barometer, there’s mellow, mild, medium, hot or hell. Come Thursday night and into the weekend, Itchy Rich and friends take to the decks, giving the subterranean den an atmosphere of more than just an American food joint. Authentic Tennesse plates, boozy concoctions and tunes – the whole evening’s sorted.
