When you think about what to put between a bun, a juicy burger or a hunk of buttermilk chicken may well spring to mind? But this dinky, seafood shack in E8 is skillfully whipping up something entirely different – the likes of beer batter fried cod with smashed mint peas and cabbage and onion salad, or dill gravlax salmon with roasted aubergine – encased between slightly buttery, mildly sweet, toasted brioche rolls. On our visit, we sample chunks of expertly-poached delicate king crab with chive mayo and pieces of gem lettuce – the juices from the cooking liquid soak into the bread adding a decadent richness. Equally delectable is the super tender octopus special with charred Padrón peppers and homemade hummus. Brought to us by an ex-development chef of Novikov Group, Giacomo Uzzo and Federico Ciampolini, this is a casual spot for a bite, slightly away from the bustle of Broadway Market, with a sustainable charm of its own.
