We’ve been waiting so very long for this. London; Original Sin is a proper, New York-style, neighbourhood bar. We love a good pub, who doesn’t, but the Capital is finally embracing its destiny as a late-night city and the local boozer just won’t cut it past 11pm. Ali Burgess has been educating us on the wonders of the New York drinking scene ever since his freshman establishment, Happiness Forgets opened its doors in 2011. His first venture is now firmly established amongst the ranks of the world’s best bars and Burgess is free to venture into uncharted waters. We have to mention it because we’re itching to. It has a pool table. A big pool table. A big, free pool table, with American pockets for when we’ve had one cocktail too many; it’s wonderful. The wooden clad interior stretches out like an old train carriage with the bar on the right hand side and booth seating to the left. The drinks menu is short and classic. If you are lucky enough to live in the vicinity of Stoke Newington, this has all the hallmarks of a Cheers-style local. That being said, the late night Thursday to Saturday licence changes the tone of the bar. Whether you’ve come in to sample top-shelf liquor or for a quiet drink with friends, come closing; the night feels young.
