Hotels are a funny one sometimes. You either have to pay top dollar for exquisite luxury (not that I can afford) or you’re lumbered with a mid-range pit in West London that smells of stale Subway sandwiches. Thankfully East London has Russells of Clapton. It’s a home-from-home featuring a garden, lounge and kitchen that guests are free to use. It’s owned and run by Annette who is super cool and it’s kitted out in fine form. You might even bump into the likes of Metronomy or The Drums, who have all stayed in the time it’s been open. Not only do you have the hipster chic and friendly service, it’s also the perfect place to drop your anchor and explore the surrounding area. On your doorstep you have the up-and-coming Chatsworth Road; you can also check out the canals, parks and marshes of Lea Bridge and do everything from kayaking through to ice skating and horse riding. / Firas Waez
