Perhaps we’ve grown a little cynical as of late. Because when we on a Saturday morning entered Watch House Coffee – a cute little cafe at the far end of Bermondsey Street – our expectations were not all that high. We’ve had too many over-priced croissants and tiny chia pots in our time.
But, Watch House Coffee is a pleasant surprise. Not only is the coffee decent, the space charming – with a wood fire oven raging in one of the corners – and the sandwiches well put together, the porridge arrives in a bowl larger than our face, topped with berries, honey and banana. And leaves us all defeated.
We’ll certainly be back at this neighbourhood star very soon again.
